The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) has started a new funding round for its ‘Export Initiative Environmental Protection’ (EXI). Project outline submissions are now open until 1 April 2023.

The funding programme helps German green tech companies prepare for international market entry. Funding is available for project ideas in the following priority areas:

  • Water and waste water management
  • Circular economy, waste/raw materials management, resource efficiency
  • Environmental management and sustainable consumption
  • Sustainable transport solutions
  • Sustainable urban and regional development
  • Green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies
  • Innovative cross-sectional technologies

German commercial businesses – and specifically small and mid-sized enterprises – as well as societies and associations, higher education institutions and non-university research institutions can all submit a funding application for their green tech project idea.

Project outlines may be submitted until 1 April 2023

EXI projects should pioneer the use of smart green tech components and innovative solutions based on ‘Made in Germany’ environmental technologies. In this way, the transfer of German know-how, products and services in the green tech field can lead to the implementation of higher environmental standards and regulations.

About the BMUV’s Export Initiative Environmental Protection

Since 2016, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) has used its funding programme to help mid-sized German green tech companies promote their innovative, ‘Made in Germany’ environmental technologies. The aim is to establish optimised general conditions for sustainable development together with improved environmental and living conditions (SDG implementation) in the target countries.

By supporting suitable infrastructures, projects from the BMUV Export Initiative Environmental Protection help to implement green public services and environmentally compatible services worldwide.

Since 2022, Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH, as project management agency for the Export Initiative Environmental Protection, has assisted the Federal Environment Ministry in its work here.
