Focal points of the Environmental Protection Export Initiative

The "Export Initiative for Environmental Protection" (EXI) promotes the international transfer of knowledge and technology in particular. The EXI emphasises important areas of expertise of the Federal Ministry for the Environment. The focus is on topics such as clean water, the circular economy, green hydrogen and fuel cell technology as well as environmentally friendly mobility.

Circular economy

The circular economy encompasses waste avoidance and recycling: the closed-loop model follows the principle of natural ecosystems that do not produce waste, but transform all materials into recyclable resources.

Green hydrogen and fuel cell technology

Environmentally friendly hydrogen and fuel cell systems (micro-grid systems) are intended to provide as many people as possible with a sustainable, off-grid power supply. The aim of the EXI projects is to use green hydrogen for this purpose.

Water and wastewater technology

Water plays a key role in nutrition, health, the environment and energy conversion. Economic development depends on an adequate water supply. EXI wants to strengthen the global lead market for sustainable water management.
