This project complemented the country profiles already prepared by the German Water Partnership e.V. (GWP) as part of the export initiative. (GWP), including the target markets Egypt, Tunisia and India, as well as the Industrial Water Compendium I (IWK I) project, and is directly related to them. This continuity of the implemented and planned measures regarding topics and target markets deepened the impact and sustainability in the target countries and works towards a concrete implementation of solutions in the target markets.

The Industrial Water Compendium developed within the framework of IWK I serves as a guide for decision-makers in the wastewater sector in the regions of MENA (Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan) and India, supporting them in the implementation of effective and sustainable strategies and technologies for the treatment of industrial wastewater. The "lessons learned" from IWK I clearly show the added value of holistic concepts compared to the consideration of only individual components. Only by taking a holistic view of the entire process can the environmental innovations used unfold their full potential for improving wastewater treatment in the target markets and make a substantial contribution to sustainable economic development. The follow-up project IWK II provided for the further and sustainable dissemination of the findings from IWK I and comprises events abroad based on these findings, with a focus on networking between German and local stakeholders as well as capacity development workshops.

The project actively promoted the application of German environmental technologies in the water sector and the transfer of know-how to emerging and developing countries, thus making an important contribution to global environmental and climate protection, in particular to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6 ("Clean Water and Sanitation") and 13 ("Climate Action") as set out in Agenda 2030. The project measures supported the direct networking of all relevant actors and political decision-makers. By doing so, the project supports sustainable development, promotes the identification of technology applications in terms of higher environmental standards and ultimately creates suitable conditions for the successful and sustainable application of "Environmental Technologies - Made in Germany" together with local partners (SDG 9, "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure"; 17, "Partnerships for the Goals").
