AHK Azerbaijan

The overarching goal of the project was to make a sustainable contribution to the further development of water management in Azerbaijan, benefiting not only the environment but also health. To this end, AHK Azerbaijan initially trained employees of SMEs and state and municipal institutions as part of the "Sustainable water and wastewater management" course. In addition, the publication "Sustainable water management in Azerbaijan - current opportunities, problems and challenges" analyzed the needs of the market as well as current and planned projects and tenders. Subsequently, a business trip to Azerbaijan from April 27 to 30, 2021 laid the foundation for an exchange between German and Azerbaijani companies and at the same time offered SMEs start-up support for a successful market entry. The participating companies were given access to specific first-hand information as well as advice and contacts with potential business partners through B2B meetings, visits to government agencies, roundtable discussions and company tours.

The centerpiece of the project was the German-Azerbaijani Economic Forum "Sustainable Water and Wastewater Management for Azerbaijan" on April 28, 2021, which brought together the most important stakeholders from both countries by organizing panel discussions and strategy workshops. This enabled a professional and solution-oriented exchange between the key players of both countries. In addition to the intended knowledge transfer and capacity building, the basis for a further sustainable and fruitful practical cooperation between the stakeholders beyond 2020/21 was published in the form of a strategic position paper and addresses to the national ministries.
