The initial situation
Chile and Germany are pursuing similar goals in the areas of climate neutrality, the circular economy and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. This builds opportunities for the growing number of German green tech companies that seek to position themselves in Chile with sustainable solutions and enter into cooperation projects with local actors. However, there is strong competition in the country from multinational companies from the USA, China and other Latin American countries that have significant resources, established partnerships and not only cultural but also linguistic proximity. The price-sensitive Chilean market poses an additional challenge.
The approach
The project aims to establish a GreenTech Hub in Chile as a point of contact for German and Chilean companies. The hub focuses on several key topic areas:
- Water
- Circular economy
- Waste management
- Off-grid energy supply with green hydrogen (H2)
- Sustainability management
- Sustainable financing models.
The objectives and measures
The GreenTech Hub aims to simplify the exchange of knowledge, establish sustainable networks and promote the transfer of technology between both countries. The AHK Chile plays a major role here: it provides information and consultation, and brings companies, public institutions and other actors together.
Particular focus is put on support for German companies in adherence to the local EPR regulations. For example, the AHK Chile ensures that German products comply with the requirements of the Chilean market and that all registration and payment obligations are clarified. At the same time, it is intensifying its cooperation with the regional AHK network in Latin America for the purpose of using synergies for market entry and consultation services.
With its expertise, AHK Chile facilitates the introduction of German technology and accompanies pilot projects in Chile. This support is a decisive factor in successfully establishing German products and services on the market.
