Material choices for environmentally friendly packaging design

The report highlights the negative impacts of single-use plastic and packaging waste on health, ecosystems, climate and biodiversity. Measure to counter this problem vary widely, sometimes as a result of a lack of know-how concerning the environmental impacts of packaging materials. A life cycle assessment (LCA) is used to analyse environmental impacts. The report is based on a literature review of multiple LCA studies that concentrate on five packaging applications: shopping bags, beverage containers, beverage cups, take-away packaging and meat packaging. It is important to emphasise that this report is not based on internal LCA modelling work, but is instead a synthesis of the information and results from a whole series of LCA studies.
