Building local capacity and knowledge plays an important role in achieving the United Nations' Sustainability Goal 17. At the same time, environmental technologies are an important component for sustainable ("green") growth and development of society and economy (UN SDG No. 9).

The overall objective was to promote green and sustainable investments of Bolivian companies in green technologies on both, the supply and demand side through an interactive e-learning course (Certificado de Experto en Finanzas Verdes). Through their joint offer, the AHK Bolivia and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management enable a decisive local increase in knowledge in the development and distribution of financial products (supply side) as well as a deeper understanding of technology and knowledge of green project financing among local companies (demand side). The transfer of knowledge thus improves the framework conditions for investments in green technologies and thus the export opportunities for German suppliers.

The project aimed to develop an eLearning course on green finance for the local financial sector. Lack of access to sufficient financing is still a central bottleneck for the implementation of investments in environmental technologies. Through this innovative cooperation, Frankfurt School and the AHK network promoted the availability of green finance products (meta-level). By presenting reference projects of German companies adapted to the target market, the technical knowledge of German providers were integrated into the training programme and were positioned as potential technology suppliers to local decision-makers in the financial sector and the real economy (micro level).

Due to the digital solution, the approach has a broad impact and is scalable in terms of space and time. The online-based training programme represents a qualification which will be established as an ongoing and continuous offer in the worldwide network of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry abroad.
